Trauma-Informed Care for Direct Support Professionals: Practical Safe Support Without Crossing into Therapy
Workshop Overview
This interactive workshop is designed to support Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) in better understanding the behaviours and needs of the people they support through a trauma-informed lens. Participants will explore the underlying reasons why individuals may present in certain ways, with a focus on the high prevalence of trauma and abuse experiences.
What You’ll Learn
- How trauma impacts development, behaviour, and current functioning
- How to “look through a trauma lens” in everyday support situations
- The difference between providing trauma-informed support and delivering therapy
Why Attend?
This workshop deepens DSPs’ awareness of trauma’s lasting impact while equipping them with practical, respectful, and effective tools. Participants will leave with greater confidence in providing safe, supportive care that honors each person’s experiences—without stepping outside their role.
