Introduction to Functional Communication and Behaviour Skills Training
Part 1: Functional Communication Training to Decrease Challenging Behaviour Functional Communication Training has been demonstrated to be an effective strategy to minimize challenging behaviour. It is based on the premise that all behaviour is a form of communication.‘FCT’ is a method that facilitates the development of functional and socially significant alternative behaviours to replace challenging behaviours.
Part 2: Behaviour Skills Training Behaviour Skills Training (BST) is an evidence based method of teaching new skills. Direct staff often help teach new skills to people they support. This workshop will provide an introduction of how to teach skills in a positive and evidence based way. Through the use of examples, discussions, and practice, staff will have an opportunity to increase their skills and confidence with this method of teaching.
